Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Newspaper cartoons are a unique form of journalism that use satire, humor, and symbolism to convey messages and critique political leaders and policies. In Birnin Kebbi Local Government, Kebbi State, newspaper cartoons have become a popular medium for expressing public sentiment and influencing political discourse. These cartoons serve as a tool for shaping public perception of political leaders by highlighting their achievements, flaws, and controversies. This study aims to analyze the impact of newspaper cartoons on how the public perceives political leaders in Birnin Kebbi Local Government.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The study will benefit journalists, cartoonists, and policymakers by providing insights into the power of visual media in political discourse. It will also contribute to understanding how public perception of political leaders can be shaped through satirical journalism.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on the impact of newspaper cartoons on public perception in Birnin Kebbi Local Government, Kebbi State. It does not explore other forms of satire or visual media outside newspapers.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
